Day 2: The Resistance That Makes Us Strong
The butterfly does not judge itself for struggling. It simply pushes, knowing somehow that this is the way through.
In the quiet darkness of the chrysalis, something miraculous and terrible is happening. The caterpillar that was is dissolving, breaking down into a soup of cells that hold within them the memory of wings. When the time comes, the butterfly begins to push against the walls of its cocoon, struggling with everything it has to break free. If you were to watch this and feel sorry for the creature, if you were to carefully cut open the chrysalis to help it escape more easily, you would doom it. The butterfly would emerge with wings too weak to fly, body too soft to survive. It is the very act of struggling, of pushing against resistance, that forces fluid into the wings and gives them the strength they need to carry the butterfly into the sky.
We are all in our own process of becoming, and the struggles we face are not obstacles to our transformation - they are the transformation itself.
Your Journey Continues
You love your animals. You would do anything for them. And yet there are moments when you feel lost, uncertain, frustrated with yourself. Perhaps you wish you understood them better, responded more quickly to their needs, knew with certainty what that behavior means or why they won't eat or what that look in their eyes is trying to tell you. Perhaps you doubt your own intuition, second-guessing the quiet knowing that arises in you, dismissing it as imagination or wishful thinking.
These struggles are not signs that you are failing. They are the resistance that is strengthening your wings.
Your Practice for Today
Reflect in your journal: What are your struggles with your animals? Be honest with yourself. What feels hard? What do you wish were different? What situations leave you feeling helpless or inadequate? Write it all down without judgment.
Then ask yourself: What is stopping you from evolving to the next level and being an even better caregiver than you already are? What fears arise when you think about trusting your intuition more fully?
Finally, explore: What are your current beliefs about your intuitive abilities? Do you believe you have them? Do you trust them? What stories have you told yourself about whether you can truly communicate with animals? What would you need to release to allow something new to emerge?
